Frequently asked questions

What is a circle crop used for?

A round crop is the standard shape for profile pictures and avatars on social networks, team pages, testimonials, chat apps, and user account icons. A transparent PNG drops cleanly onto any background color or layout.

How do I keep the face centered?

Drag inside the preview to slide the photo until the face sits where you want it, then use the zoom slider to fill the circle. The crop is re-rendered live as you make each change.

Will the corners be transparent?

If you keep the transparent background option on and export a PNG, the area outside the circle is fully transparent. JPG cannot store transparency, so a transparent background is filled with white in the JPG output.

What output size should I choose?

Match the size the avatar will actually be displayed at. Between 256px and 512px covers most profile pictures; larger sizes are fine but produce bigger files for no visible gain on screen.

Can I use a solid background instead of transparent?

Yes. Untick the transparent option and pick any color. This is useful when a platform does not support transparency, or when you want the avatar to match a brand color.

Why does the preview look slightly soft when zoomed in?

The preview is rendered at screen resolution for speed. The downloaded file is rendered at the full output size you selected, so it is sharper than the on-screen preview.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is loaded, cropped, and encoded in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
