Frequently asked questions

Does this detect faces automatically?

No. Blur & Censor uses manual region selection: you draw a box over whatever you want to hide. This is honest and predictable — there is no AI face detection, so you stay in full control of what is covered.

What is the difference between blur and pixelate?

Blur applies a soft gaussian-style blur that obscures detail while keeping the underlying colors and shapes. Pixelate replaces each region with large blocks of averaged color. Pixelation usually makes text and numbers unrecoverable, while a light blur may still leave readable shapes, so raise the strength if you are hiding something important.

How strong should the effect be?

Increase the strength until the detail you care about is no longer readable, then check the live preview. For faces, a medium strength is usually enough. For text, numbers, or license plates, use a higher value or pixelation to be safe.

Can I censor more than one area at once?

Yes. Draw as many regions as you need. Every region gets a small remove handle so you can delete a single box without starting over, and the Remove all button clears them all at once.

Is the blur permanent?

The downloaded file has the effect baked into the pixels, so it cannot be reversed in an image viewer. Keep the original if you may need the unedited photo later.

Does it keep the original resolution?

Yes. The on-screen preview is scaled down for speed, but the export is rendered at the original pixel dimensions, so the rest of the photo stays as sharp as the source.

Can I export as JPG, PNG, or WebP?

You can choose any format your browser can encode. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, while JPG and WebP allow a quality setting. When you pick a format without transparency support, transparent areas are flattened onto white.
