Image tools FAQ
Straight answers about compressing, resizing, and converting images — what works, what doesn’t, and how the free in-browser tools actually behave.
Frequently asked questions
What is an image compressor?
An image compressor reduces a file’s size so it takes up less space and loads faster. It works by re-encoding the image at a lower quality, or by switching to a more efficient format such as WebP or AVIF. ImgSprint’s Compress Image tool does this in your browser with a live quality slider, and the dedicated size pages can aim for a specific target such as 50KB, 100KB, 200KB, or 500KB.
How can I compress an image without losing quality?
You cannot reduce a JPG in size without discarding some data, but you can keep the loss invisible. Use a high quality setting around 85–95%, and choose WebP or AVIF, which usually look identical to JPG at a smaller file size. PNG is lossless, so it never drops quality, but its file size only shrinks by reducing dimensions. Try the Compress Image tool, or the “Compress without losing quality” page that prioritizes quality first.
How can I reduce image file size online for free?
Pick a target size page such as 50KB, 100KB, 200KB, or 500KB, then drag your images onto it. The tool finds the best quality that still fits the target and only reduces the dimensions if it must. Everything runs in your browser, it is free, and you do not need an account.
How do I resize an image without losing quality?
Shrinking an image is usually safe and keeps it looking sharp. Enlarging cannot add real detail, so ImgSprint applies high-quality smoothing instead. Enter your exact width and height, keep the aspect ratio locked, and export at 90% quality or higher in JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF. The Resize Image tool handles custom sizes, and the preset pages cover common ones like 1080×1080 or 1920×1080.
How can I convert JPG to PNG?
Use the Convert Image tool or the JPG to PNG page. Select PNG as the output and every file is re-encoded in your browser. You end up with a lossless PNG, and a transparent background is supported.
How can I convert PNG to WebP?
Open the Convert Image tool or the PNG to WebP page, choose WebP, and convert as many files as you like. WebP keeps transparency and usually produces much smaller files, making it a strong choice for the web.
What is the best image format for websites?
WebP is the best all-round default: every modern browser supports it, it keeps transparency, and files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality. AVIF compresses even further, but browser encoding support varies. Use PNG for logos, icons, and screenshots that need transparency, and JPG when you need maximum compatibility. Our formats guide compares them in detail.
How can I convert WebP to JPG?
Visit the WebP to JPG page or use the Convert Image tool, then save as JPG. Because JPG does not support transparency, any transparent areas are filled with white automatically.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes. Add as many images as you like and process them together with the same settings, then download the results one by one or all at once. Because processing happens on your device, working in groups of 10–20 keeps things fast on phones.
How can I resize an image to a specific size?
Enter the exact width and height in pixels; the aspect ratio can stay locked so the image never stretches. Choose how it fits: fill/cover crops to fill the frame, fit/contain letterboxes onto a background, and exact stretches to the size. Preset pages are also available for 1080×1080, 1920×1080, Instagram, WhatsApp, passport photos, and website images.
Is ImgSprint free to use?
Yes. Every tool is free to use, with no account, no subscription, and no watermark on your results.
Are my uploaded images safe and private?
Nothing is uploaded. ImgSprint processes images in your browser using the web’s built-in image engine, so your files never leave your device. They are never sent to a server, stored, or shared, which is why closing the tab leaves nothing behind.
Can I convert images without installing software?
Yes. ImgSprint is a website, so everything runs in your browser on any modern device. There is nothing to download and no browser extension required.
